Angular contact ball bearings have inner and outer ring raceways that are displaced relative to each other along the bearing axis, so they can carry combined loads: radial loads together with heavy axial loads in one direction.
Single row bearings are usually mounted in pairs (back-to-back, face-to-face or in tandem) to carry axial loads in both directions; SKF offers universally matchable bearings (suffixes CB, CA, CC) that can be mounted in any arrangement. Double row bearings carry axial loads in both directions within a single bearing.
